Muelhens

4711 (former Muelhens) is a German perfumery brand that developed from the 4711 when in 2006 it was aquired by Maurer & Wirtz of Aachen. The brand 4711 goes back to the 18th century Cologne, Germany, when in 1792 Johann Maria Farina composed a fragrance he called Eau de Cologne. The fragrance went to become an iconic fragrance. Eventually the license to produce it was bought by Wilhelm Muelhens and 80 years later Ferdinand Muelhens renamed the company as 4711, after the old house number of the business address in Cologne.  The words Eau de Cologne became synonymous with any refreshing fragrance and generally lower concentrated perfumed toilet waters. The first fragrance for women was launched in 1921 under the name of Tosca and was a women's wardrobe staple for decades. Today Muelhens has 11 perfumes in her fragrance base, as well as she continues the production of the 4711 branded colognes for men.
