Salvatore Ferragamo is an Italian luxury goods company, specialising in shoes, leather goods, ready-to-wear clothes, eyewear, Swiss-made timepieces. Salvatore Ferragamo built the company upon an artistic trait that is so integral to the Florentine identity, because the city colours the artistry, craft, drive, family ethos and harmony of Ferragamo with unmistakable hues. For Ferragamo, Florence is a place of endless inspiration, but also a place of affection. After studying shoemaking in Naples, Salvatore Ferragamo moved to the Unites States in 1914 where he first began to design footwear for the film industry and became known as the "shoemaker to the stars", as for the perfectly simple, timeless pump worn by Marilyn Monroe in the movie "Some like it hot". When he returned to Italy from the US in 1927 Salvatore Ferragamo had no hesitation where he would build his business and headed straight to Florence, moving the headquarters to Palazzo Spini Feroni, a veritable local landmark, in 1938. Salvatore Ferragamo passed away in 1960, but the Ferragamo company has remained in family hands, continue to shape its ideal of pure beauty, profoundly connected to the House's passion for exquisite craftsmanship and best natural materials that evolve with the passing of time, spanning more than 90 years of excellence and refinement. Classic, for Ferragamo brand, is modernity is a matter of soulful classicism. The innovative urge driving the company is so burning, deeply felt and authentic, it translates right away into a new form of classicism. A luxury piece is always a joint effort, in which the designer and the executor, the fantasy and the hand, are equally important, and the soul of it is the result of their mutual dialogue. Craft is the set of skills of the highly-qualified Ferragamo artisans but it is also a mindset that informs the house as a whole. Craft is integral to the values Ferragamo promotes, in fact, and intrinsically comes with the territory.
